What is the REV score?

The REV score is a number from 0 to 100, calculated by Niipy, that sums up how a local business shows up online. It is built on three pillars (Reputation, Engagement and Visibility) and uses only public data from the business's Google Business Profile, Google reviews and website. Every free Niipy analysis includes it.

The score

The REV score is one number with three pillars behind it.

The REV score sums up in a number from 0 to 100 how your business shows up online. It is built on three pillars: Reputation (what customers think of you), Engagement (how well you look after your Google profile: replies to reviews, posts, photos) and Visibility (how easy you are to find). Every sector has its own balance: for a restaurant, for example, reviews weigh most. The REV score tells you where you stand and how you compare with your nearest competitors.

  • An overall score from 0 to 100 places your business in one of five bands.
  • A score for each pillar shows where you are strong and where you fall behind.
  • A comparison with your three nearest competitors tells you whether you are ahead or behind in your area.

Over 5,000 businesses analysed, each with its own REV score.

Priority move
You are ahead of your three nearest competitors, but Engagement is your weakest pillar. Your priority is to reply to every review and add new photos every week.
The three pillars

Each pillar answers one question.

The three pillars use only public data from Google and from your website. No social network is part of the score. Google’s own tips to improve your local ranking include complete business information and managing your reviews.

Reputation

“What do customers really think of me?”

Reputation measures your average rating, the number of reviews and the sentiment of what customers write on Google.

Engagement

“Do I look after my Google profile?”

Engagement measures how well you look after your Google Business Profile: replies to reviews, posts and how often you add photos.

Visibility

“How easy am I to find?”

Visibility measures how complete your Google profile is (identity, contacts, opening hours, address, services, links and reviews), plus the SEO and performance of your website.

Bands

Every score falls into one of five bands.

The bands apply to the overall score and to each pillar, so you can read every number in the same way.

REV score bands
BandScoreWhat it means
Prime90–10090–100Optimised on every front.
Strong75–8975–89Solid, with limited room to grow.
Steady60–7460–74Stable, with clear areas to improve.
Rising40–5940–59Growing, with important gaps.
Baseline0–390–39Incomplete profile or weak reputation.
Sector balance

Every sector has its own balance.

The overall REV score combines the three pillars, and the balance between them depends on your sector, because customers choose differently in each one. For a restaurant, for example, reviews weigh most.

Niipy calculates the score every time it runs an analysis. With Monitoring, the score is recalculated automatically, so you can see how it moves over time, and Niipy alerts you when your band changes.

Comparison

Your score means most next to your competitors.

The same REV score tells one story in a street of Baseline businesses and another next to three Prime ones. That is why every analysis compares you with your three nearest competitors. If you are Steady and they are Strong, you see the gap at a glance, and the three pillars show you where it comes from.

Data

The score uses public data only.

The REV score uses only public data from your Google profile and your website. Private profile data, such as views, calls and direction requests, appears in your full report but never enters the score.

What the score uses

  • Your Google reviews give your average rating, the number of reviews and their sentiment.
  • Your Google Business Profile shows your replies to reviews, your posts, your photos and how complete it is.
  • Your website is measured on its SEO and its performance.

What the score never uses

  • Social networks such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok are not part of the score.
  • Private data from your Google profile, such as views, searches, calls and direction requests, never enters the score: you see it in your full report, under Results, when you sign in with Google.
  • Ads, including Google & Maps Campaigns, are not part of the score.

Your data stays yours: we don't sell it and we don't share it. For comparisons with similar businesses we only use aggregated, anonymous data.

Improve

Here is how to improve your REV score.

The best place to start is your weakest pillar. Engagement and Visibility depend on things you can do yourself, on your Google profile and on your website.

Engagement

Reply to your reviews

An answer to every review, positive or negative, shows customers that someone is listening.

Engagement

Post updates and add photos

Regular posts and new photos of your products, your space and your team show that your business is active.

Visibility

Complete your Google profile

Every section counts: identity, contacts, opening hours, address, services and links. An up-to-date profile tells customers exactly when and where to find you.

Visibility

Look after your website

A website that loads quickly on mobile and says clearly what you do and where you are makes your business easier to find.

From score to action

Your score tells you what to do next.

The analysis shows you where to start. When you want more, Niipy keeps an eye on reviews and competitors with Monitoring and brings you new customers with Google & Maps Campaigns, showing you every week what it has done.

Questions

These answers explain the REV score.

The REV score is a number from 0 to 100, calculated by Niipy, that sums up how a local business shows up online. It is built on three pillars (Reputation, Engagement and Visibility), places the business in one of five bands, from Baseline to Prime, and shows how it compares with its three nearest competitors. It is part of the free Niipy analysis.

Reputation measures what customers think of you: your average rating, the number of reviews and the sentiment of what they write on Google. Engagement measures how well you look after your Google Business Profile: replies to reviews, posts and how often you add photos. Visibility measures how easy you are to find: how complete your Google profile is (identity, contacts, opening hours, address, services, links and reviews) and the SEO and performance of your website.

There are five bands, and they apply both to the overall score and to each pillar. Prime (90 to 100) means optimised on every front. Strong (75 to 89) means solid, with limited room to grow. Steady (60 to 74) means stable, with clear areas to improve. Rising (40 to 59) means growing, with important gaps. Baseline (0 to 39) means an incomplete profile or a weak reputation.

Customers choose differently in different sectors, so the balance between Reputation, Engagement and Visibility changes with your sector. For a restaurant, for example, reviews weigh most.

No. The REV score uses only public data from Google, meaning your reviews and your Google Business Profile, and from your website. Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and other social networks are not part of the score.

No. Views, searches, calls and direction requests are private data of your Google Business Profile. When you sign in with Google, you see them in your full report, under Results, but they never enter the score. Because the score uses only public data, every business, including your competitors, is measured in the same way.

Niipy calculates the REV score every time it runs an analysis. With Monitoring, the score is recalculated automatically: you see how it moves over time, and Niipy alerts you, by email and in the app, when your band changes.

The best place to start is your weakest pillar. Engagement improves when you reply to your reviews and publish posts and photos on your Google profile regularly. Visibility improves when you complete every section of your Google profile and look after the SEO and performance of your website. Reputation follows the experience you offer and what customers write about it.
